Director Biography – Archana Kelkar Deshmukh
Directors Note:
Being brought up in a typical Indian middle-class family, I had to fight gender discrimination throughout my childhood. I grew up witnessing my highly educated Aunt be a victim of domestic violence. I was the support system for a friend who was being molested during early childhood. I grew up with guilt for failing to help both of them.
As a result, from a young age, I became an active member of the women’s liberation organisation and devoted ten years of my life to raising public awareness and advocating for laws to protect women’s and children’s rights. Later joined hands with Social Awareness Projects for Govt of India, WHO, UNICEF to spread awareness by Writing, Directing and Producing Plays .
Today, it is beyond disheartening to know that women across the globe are still being ill-treated, abused or sold by their families. While society or onlookers prefers to be silent partners under the pretext of social norms or the concept of privacy and internal family matters.
The Human Race has evolved to achieve unfathomable things. During this journey, we learnt that along with fundamental rights like food, clothing, shelter, and education, Love and Happiness are equally essential to all.
Life can be beautiful; only if one gets equity, autonomy, and the right to choose who one is and how one lives.
We condemn any kind of misogyny , suppression as well as abuse in any form or kinds. We strongly believe that every living soul is born free. It is our duty to protect those who are in need and respect the path they believe in. It is not just to force someone to follow certain norms for the sake of the precedents set by our society as “To be Happy is every individual’s birth right”.
It is time to understand that to be happy is the fundamental right of living beings. It’s time to redefine the traditional definition of ‘MARD’ (MASCULINITY). Irrespective of gender or clan , whoever works for the betterment of the vulnerable, stands for them and fights for justice is the MARD (MASCULINITY) in true sense.
